Aisha Patel — Landscapes Beyond the Tar Road

The journey
Aisha left a corporate job in Durban to spend a year photographing the Namib. One year became five, and her prints now hang in lodges across the region. Most of her work happens far from tar roads — rooftop tents, gravel tracks, and long waits for the right light.
Favourite locations
Spitzkoppe under the Milky Way, the Amphitheatre in the Drakensberg after summer storms, and the quiver tree forests outside Keetmanshoop. "The best landscapes in Southern Africa are at the end of the worst roads. Pack accordingly."
The gear
An EasyPack 15L with a mirrorless body, three primes and a filter kit. "It's light enough for a summit push and tough enough for a bakkie's load bed. Five years in, the scuffs just look like chapters."
